Flying kites
Last Saturday, we visited grandpa and grandma. The weather was gorgeous, the wind cooperated and we flew our kites.
Costas had a 3-D fighter jet kite (SAM's club, around $10.00). This kite was nice! It took me half an hour to connect the little pieces and make it look the way it was supposed to look, but the results justified the effort. The kite flew wonderfully and Costas was able to hold it all by himself for a good amount of time.
Sophia's kite was Dora the Explorer - what else did you expect? She had a lot of fun too and held her own by running around and holding her own kite.
It was good fun and we are all looking forward to going back.
I don’t even remember the last time I flew a kite. I used to do this when I was young in Greece. It was our custom to fly kites on “Clean Monday”. My dad used to be able to make kites for me. He used wax paper and bamboo wood for the frame. The shape of the kite was usually geometrical, an octagon being the most popular one. Add a long tail for balance and you’re there.
Playing with the kids and their kites reminded me of some of these times…
